The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, in effect until 2:00 PM IST. This covers many districts, including Jammu itself, and warns of intense heavy showers, plus the risk of cloudburst, flash floods, and landslides.
Additionally, a Flood Alert (Orange) remains active until 5:30 AM IST on Tuesday, August 26, particularly for districts like Doda, Kathua, Kishtwar, Samba, and Udhampur, where moderate flash flood risks persist.
News reports today also confirm that the IMD warned of heavy rains and potential flooding across Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing the critical nature of the situation.
In some districts like Kishtwar, local authorities have activated control rooms and help desks to assist the public amid continued rainfall, flash floods, and landslide threats.
Furthermore, the Jammu Division has canceled school classes in both government and private schools for August 25, due to the adverse weather conditions.
